Alan Guttmacher Alan Guttmacher is a mother's dream: a Harvard-educated doctor and teacher from a good family. And if that isn't enough, he is the director of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), which funds research on child and maternal health. Prior to his appointment, Alan was acting director of the National Human Genome Research Institute and oversaw NIH's involvement with the Surgeon General's Family Health History Initiative. As director of NICHD, Alan hopes to identify and pursue promising scientific advancements that will improve developmental health. |
James Watson James Watson…of Watson and Crick…need we say more? Best known for discovering the structure of DNA along with Francis Crick, James revolutionized research and medicine. Since then, he has been a tireless advocate for increased funding for research and innovation, and his commitment to DNA has not wavered: he helped establish the Human Genome project. While his DNA discovery is written in the history books, he is most proud of his many publications.
